Case Study: Mattress Inspection and Auto-Wrapper Feed
The original method of indexing and inspection meant that multiple operators had to lift and manoeuvre mattresses, turning and flipping them, with the sole support of a table. This was a health and safety issue and also meant the wastage of time and potential for misalignment.
The addition of an ICON Tek belt-driven conveyor to rotate and flip the mattresses by 180 degrees allowed the operator to remain in one position to inspect and iron the mattress before it moves onto a C90 Tek multi-directional belt and roller conveyor to manoeuvre it 90 degrees into a wrapping machine that compressed the mattress and packs it into a polythene bag.
There was a requirement to ensuring minimal health and safety risks, reduction of labour of, and by, operators, as well as increasing capacity and speeding up transportation, along with best use of space and ease of automatically guiding the mattresses to where they needed to be.
Having worked with MattressTek on a number of projects for automation and machination across our factory, I can say with confidence that their offering is fantastic. Be it honesty and transparency in pre-sales, through to timely delivery and installation, to promptness and confidence in post-sales (i.e. being on-hand to resolve post-installation snags) – MattressTek performed.
The factory looks great with their equipment, it functions more efficiently and staff are less-exposed to manual handling risks. Highly recommend.
